On July 9, 2012 the employer made an announcement about the "Introduction of the Mental Health Therapist under HSAA". The memo from the employer can be found here and a FAQ can also be found here.
The Labour Relations Board decisions regarding the classification of the Mental Health Therapist (MHT) that the employer has referred to in their memo can be found here and here.
UNA is opposed to this move by the employer and believes that the RNs and RPNs working as "mental health therapists" should be classified as nurses and remain in UNA. We also take strong objection to the process the employer has used to implement this move. This does affect a number of nurses in Locals across the city as well.
UNA is investigating its options and part of that process involves fact finding. We would appreciate hearing from nurses who are in a "mental health therapist" position and would also like to have copies of any job posting and job description you may have. Please contact Yessy Byl, Labour Relation Advisor with UNA for Local 183 with any question and information. (email: email@example.com or call @ 780-425-1025).
The Local is planning to hold a meeting in the near future to discuss this situation and provide information.
