At our Local 183 AGM on December 20, 2016 we voted to fund two people to attend the 2017 Edmonton District Labour Council (EDLC) Weekend Labour School and one person to to attend the Canadian Federation of Nurses Union (CFNU) 2017 Convention.

EDLC DRAW
The 2017 Edmonton District Labour Council Labour School is February 24 to 26, 2017.

Funding is for registration, parking/mileage, and up to 15.5 hours salary replacement.

CFNU DRAW

LOCAL 183 AGM 2016 - We had a successful Annual General Meeting on December 20, 2016. Congratulations to the following members:

Andrew was acclaimed to the position of Treasurer
Pawel was acclaimed to the position of Professional Responsibility Committee Representative
Milada was acclaimed to the position of Occupational Health & Safety Committee Representative
Jamie was elected to the position of President of UNA Local 183

All positions are for a two year term.

NEGOTIATIONS 2017 - The Provincial Demand Setting Meeting (DSM) was held on November 22, 23, and 24, 2016. Our ingoing proposal package will be finalized based on changes by members at the Demand Setting Meeting. A Local meeting to discuss the proposal package is scheduled for January 20, 2017 from 1400 to 1700hrs in the 17-Building Meeting Room at AHE.

A Ratification Vote is scheduled for Monday, January 30, 2017. Polling station will be open at the following times/locations:

        0630 to 0745hrs at AHE 17-Building Meeting Room
        1400 to 1630hrs at AHE 17-Building Meeting Room
        1200 to 1230hrs at 108 Street EMHC, Room #347

UNA Local 183 is in a unique position this round of negotiations - Jamie Suchan, President of UNA Local 183, has been elected to the Provincial Negotiating Committee.

RRSP SUPPLEMENT - UNA members urged to claim their 2-per-cent RRSP supplement. Members of the United Nurses of Alberta need to be aware their Employer has agreed to contribute to a supplemental pension plan in the form of a Registered Retirement Savings Plan contribution. UNA strongly recommends that all members who are regular employees act to take advantage of this provision if they haven't done so. It is a benefit they cannot receive without taking specific action to enroll. So without acting, employees are going without a 2 per cent retirement income supplement to their salary that they are entitled to receive under the collective agreement.

Article 29.05 of the UNA Provincial Collective Agreement:

(a) The Employer shall provide a supplemental pension plan in the form of a Registered Retirement Savings Plan (RRSP).

(b) Effective on the Employee's date of enrollment, a Regular Employee shall have the right to contribute up to 2% of his or her regular earnings into the RRSP until December 31st of the year the Employee turns 71. The Employer shall match the Employee's contributions into the RRSP.

(c) A Regular Employee who, by virtue of his or her age, no longer qualifies under Article 29.05(b), shall receive an additional 2% of her or his regular earnings.

(d) "Earnings" as defined in Article 29.05(b) above, will include WCB earnings until such time that the Employee exhausts his or her sick leave credits and is deemed to be on sick leave without pay.

The agreement does require that employees contribute 2 per cent of their salary for the employer to match, and employees need to enroll in the program for the employer to contribute this money. No UNA member should go without funds for their retirement that their Employer has agreed to contribute.
